I gain great professional satisfaction from advising individuals on what is best for their careers. For example, when an executive is looking to switch companies and needs guidance through the departure and hiring phases, they should get advice on how to navigate those moves. From severance clauses to covenants not to compete, I can advise you on the appropriate strategies that would best suit you and your employment situation.
There are times, however, when an employee is not on the positive side of an employment issue. Sometimes, employees are passed over for promotion, not paid in accordance with their peers at work, or terminated for reasons that are not performance-related. There are other occasions where an employee is being harassed or assaulted in the workplace.
And, whenever an employee attempts to report such unlawful employment actions or other unlawful actions, they open themselves up to retaliation by their employer. When life itself impedes your career either by way of illness or family need, employers occasionally run out of patience before the law runs out of protections. At those times, an employee needs to seek legal advice. In a sizeable percentage of those matters, an employee will be best served by filing a lawsuit to protect their rights, their families, and themselves.
I not only take great pride in assisting clients with various employment issues, but I also take great pride in helping clients on either end of the economic spectrum. I am the granddaughter of two grandfathers who were on opposite ends of that spectrum. On the one end, I had a very wealthy business owner who used his brains and works ethic to earn all the tremendous success he gained.
On the other end, I had a hard-working, very intelligent grandfather who never earned more than $5,000 a year in his job at a cotton mill. Both ends and everyone in the middle can benefit from legal guidance, and I truly enjoy assisting folks no matter where they fall on the spectrum.
Now a little about me personally. Red and black are my favorite colors. I bark at football games and spell dog “d-a-w-g.” I am proud to be the daughter of two wonderful teachers. I am proud to be born and raised in the South. I am very active in my church serving as an elder and former youth group advisor. I love to dance to 80s music and do so free of charge at weddings and parties even if no one asks. I am married to a very cool man who litigates cases for individuals when they suffer personal injuries. I have two small children who take up nearly every bit of my time outside of work—and I love it that way.
